History of Palavani Winery
During a trip to Georgia in 1888, the Emperor of Russia Alexander III himself visited their descendant - Major General, Prince Kiazo Eristavi. The prince with bread and wine met the imperial retinue on the road leading from Tianeti to Kakheti, and afterwards invited the Emperor to his illustrious wine cellar. It is known that after this trip, Alexander III finally abandoned foreign wine and preferred only Georgian and Crimean wines. After the Sovietization of Georgia, the cellars and vineyards of Kiazo Eristavi were transferred to state ownership.
The growing demand for Georgian wine in the USSR led to the need to increase its production, and in 1954 a new winery began to function in Kistauri.
After the collapse of the USSR, emptiness and devastation settled within the walls of a once prosperous enterprise. However, in 1994, the world famous Georgian judoist Anzor Kibrotsashvili managed to breathe new life into this place by buying out the famous winery.
Now it is at the intersection of the Alazani Valley and the South Caucasus, where the first vineyards were grown by order of Queen Tamar, that we continue the eight-thousand-year wine history of Georgia. The company owns its own vineyards in various microzones of the Kakheti region Every employee of the company plays an important role in achieving high quality products. Winemakers closely control the entire production process, from grape harvesting to wine bottling, which ensures the success of the final products in the consumer market and victory in various international competitions. |
